There's a quote commonly attributed to Lilla Watson that I wish everyone would take to heart: "If you have come here to help me, you are wasting your time. But if you have come because your liberation is bound up with mine, then let us work together."
Similar to Dr. King's, "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere."
And a quote from an article about the late, great Fred Hampton is also relevant: https://medium.com/@garrettsnedaker/revolutionary-solidarity-42d2c4c9a75b (at the end of my piece).
The problem with allyship, or at least the way in which it's often used, is the implication that allies aren't directly impacted by injustice. The whole damn culture war is about dividing and conquering, about keeping people from seeing that our collective liberation is 'bound up'. The culture war is not being waged by 'both sides': https://medium.com/@garrettsnedaker/culture-war-and-moral-equivalence-fa6649b568b2
