It’s Corruption, Not Incompetence

In order for US democracy to be in trouble, it would first have to exist. It doesn’t, at least not in any meaningful sense. Sure, there are elections and people vote in them. But, to quote Robert Jensen, “No matter who votes in elections, powerful unelected forces — the captains of industry and finance — set the parameters of political action. Voting matters, but it matters far less than most people believe, or want to believe.” To say nothing of the party gatekeepers who do their damnedest to ensure primaries are won by those who aren’t going to question those parameters.
